It's all about me......

Since the summer of 2006 when I was preparing to open the store my home has been in utter chaos! I cannot tell you how frustrating and depressing it has been to constantly come home to this mess and only add to it as the months passed. Last December I was motivated to start "putting my house in order" by Elaine's blog and got a bit of a start on it but could never manage to get the whole thing done at one time and so back we slid into utter chaos!

This past week I was "forced" to get it done! For a number of reasons, one being that I have family coming to visit shortly - I really had to take the bull by the horns and with the help of Jonathan (my son), my friend Richard and my saviour Barb (without a doubt working above and beyond the call of duty) we managed to plow through the debris....

I am now proud to present my home.......(the place where most of my quilting projects get done - or not - but at least they have a place to go)......

This is my front porch - where in the evening, if I'm at home I sit out and sip a coffee or a cold drink with friends! I've been known to bring my knitting or hand applique out there on occasion. It's really lovely on a nice summer evening and protected from the rain so we've watched a few storms from here!

This is my front door and Bosley is waiting to welcome you all inside for a peak........(note the gate so the "Big Brown Blob" can't get out).

As you walk in, to your left is the living room.....that coffee table was covered with books, magazines, quilting projects and mail.........
Oh my, there is actually a dining room table in this house???!!!! This was covered by two sewing machines and various works in progress, there were plastic containers piled all over the floor. I could actually have people over now and serve dinner - what a concept! I knew this room had another use!

To the right as you enter is the kitchen.......there are uncluttered countertops! Wow...this is new! (It is so cool to wake up to this!) Oops! I see freezer paper on top of the fridge - not something I use in the kitchen.......will have to remedy that!
This is the kitchen from the other side - which is the hallway to the bedrooms......
Just off the kitchen is my bedroom (a little too close for midnight snacks....) You may recognize the quilt - the Marti Michell Block of the Month that we did last year.....never thought it would get to the bed........there's an ensuite washroom in this room but the picture didn't turn out (too dark)!
This is the main floor washroom........needs an update but it works for us!

This is the guest bedroom (a little dark - need to get Barb to do the photos, I suck with the camera).....This was the room where everything got dumped! Laundry that needed to be folded on the bed, suitcases, extra bedding, quilt projects needing to be completed - I mean everything!
This is my den/office, where I am sitting right now typing this blog......I totally love this room and I can't tell you how much paper was strewn all over the place here - it was so depressing!

This is the landing to the back garden (a whole other project already underway).....The dresser there was piled high with "Bosley don't touch thats! Anything he had decided was a toy and wasn't, shoes, empty cans of cat food, newspaper, magazines, plastic bags, gloves.....you name it - it was on the pile (about 3 feet high). I think I even have a before picture of this one! We called it the Bosley sculpture!
Finally we go downstairs to the Studio - the second room in the house that I love......
The first picture was too dark so you don't get to see all the built-ins yet but I'm sure I will have occasion to post a pic when I'm working on something. Bosley is not allowed in the room so he's really having a good old time sniffing around.......

......and there on the design wall sits what is done of Country Haven! Now I can get back to business and get it done.........maybe tonight I will come home and enjoy my studio again!
This is the bar/pool room and beyond it is Jonathan's bedroom! The bed is piled high with "clean" clothes and there is a washroom in there too which is spotless! He's actually thrilled by all of this - just hope he stays that way.....

Even the laundry room got a good going over.........I was determined to get every inch of this house sorted out!
The storage closet off the laundry room got sorted too!
Just outside my studio is the "media" room - okay TV room! Pretty much Jonathan's private living room!
He hates all the trophies and baseball photos of him but I think he deserves the recognition for his short "career" as a T-Baller, Softball player and Baseball player.......

I hope you enjoyed the tour and thank you for your patience in allowing me to share my triumph! I honestly feel as if a huge weight has been lifted off of my shoulders and I've been walking around smiling for two days (Yesterday I took the day off to savor and enjoy the feeling of living in a clean, organized home)!
Bosley is baffled and Simon has run away for two days, came back this morning to eat but all in all this has been a wonderful experience! Thanks again for letting me share it with you (hmmmm......it's not as if you had a choice!)
Tomorrow will be about the boxes that arrived at the store yesterday and have yet to be unpacked!
Happy Quilting!

WOW - that's amazing. I am SO IMPRESSED!!!!!!!! I sure wish I could say that I am to that point. I seem to take little bits, and getting there. Isn't it just the most amazing feeling to get everything in order. And the nice thing - if you take 5 minutes everyday and put things back where they belong (Jonathon will need a severe talking to about this!!) - then it stays that way. CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!! BTW - do I want to know what happened to everything or did it just get put away????? BRAVO!!!!!

Aside from all the stuff that Barb made me throw away (which we dumped in the dumpster behind the store - hey I pay for that) and the 4 fat quarters she managed to wrangle out of my fingers pretty much everything went into it's rightful place. Still have a decent size pile of paperwork to sort through but otherwise it's all put away. .....and we're on day 2 of absolute clean!
